New research shows that the biggest concern amongst food buyers in the West is price. This has emerged from data, released following a survey of British consumers by the UK Food Standards Agency, on the issues most concerning to food buyers.

The biggest issue, cited by 54% of respondents, was food prices, well ahead of food safety issues such as food poisoning (29%) and food additives (27%).

Concern is also shown for salt levels in food, a worry for 45% of those surveyed, and food waste (42%). Food hygiene, when eating out, also rated high, a concern for 36% of respondents, with 80% aware of hygiene standards in the places they dined. These they ascertain by the general appearance of premises and staff.
