One of the fastest growing grocery sectors in the United States retail market in recent years is packaged sauces. According to new data from research company Mintel, the sauce and marinade sector grew 20% between 2005 and 2010.

Over the next five years growth is expected to continue, with sales predicted to jump another 19% by 2015. Mintel researchers found that 83% of adults who cook at home say they use pre-prepared seasoning, sauces and marinades in their kitchens. Of these, marinades were most commonly used at 74%.

One of the reasons given by Mintel for the increased popularity of pre-made sauces amongst home cooks is the promotion given to them by high profile television chefs. Leading these in support for ready-mades is Rachel Ray, with Italian cuisine presenter, Giada De Laurentiis close behind.
