One year on from the first in a series of major earthquakes to hit Christchurch, Lion wants Cantabrians to know that Kiwis still care, and are still willing to support them through this rough time.

Lion employee, Gina Harper is based in Christchurch, and has seen first-hand the hardship that many residents have endured, and still are enduring.

This sparked an idea for a way that Lion could help to support those who are still suffering from the effects of this year’s quakes – ‘Lions for Christchurch’.

Three-and-a-half-thousand pieces of Lion merchandise will be appearing on TradeMe next month – more than $65,000 worth of stock, including pieces that were rescued from the wreckage of Lion’s Canterbury Brewery. Each piece will have a mere $1 reserve, with profits from the sale of each item being used to show a bit of love and support to hard-hit Cantabrians.

Every dollar that is spent on the Lion merchandise on TradeMe constitutes one entry that can be allocated to a family based in Christchurch. When the Lion merchandise has been sold, 400 entries will be drawn. These winning families will be treated with passes to Orana Wildlife Park, where they will see (amongst other animals) the lions.

TradeMe is waiving auction fees for this campaign; NZ Couriers will be delivering all of the packages at cost price; and Orana Wildlife Park is providing discounted rates. It seems that all over, people are willing to show that they still care about Christchurch.

Anybody who wishes to help out with this campaign will see their TradeMe purchases having a double effect – they win a piece of cool Lion merchandise and the money they spend goes toward bringing a spot of fun to people who need it.

The auctions will commence on September 4 – exactly one year on from the first of the major earthquakes that have struck Christchurch.

So load up your credit cards and be generous, because with these TradeMe auctions – everybody wins.

To view the auctions from September 4 onwards, just search TradeMe for the following keywords: Lion, Canterbury, Orana Wildlife Park.
