Central Otago vineyard, Wooing Tree has won gold at this year’s New Zealand International Wine Show for its 2009 pinot noir. Co-owner, Stephen Farquharson says this is “a tremendous achievement because there are many exceptional 2009’s out there. It is a real pat on the back for the whole team, from the vineyard through to the winery”.
This same wine also achieved gold at the recent San Francisco International Wine Competition; while the Wooing Tree Beetle Juice 2010 won bronze at the New Zealand event.
The New Zealand International Wine Show is the country’s largest wine competition, and accepts wines of any variety, from any country. It always draws a huge number of entries – this year, 2,080. Just 10 percent of entries were awarded a gold medal.
