Even though pita bread has been enjoyed throughout much of the world for thousands of years, most New Zealanders didn’t know what real pita bread was until Danny Eliahu, his wife Hassida and sons introduced it to us in 1988.

Since then other pita bread manufacturers have joined the market but unlike Danny, most of them use machines to ‘cookie cut’ their pitas, making them weaker and sure to fall apart when attempting to use them as a pocket for filling. In contrast, Danny’s Real Pita Bread Company uses a centuries’ old recipe and makes fresh pita bread in the traditional way, rolling individual balls of dough that are pressed into shape, making strong edges, to hold in the food.

Danny’s Garlic Pita Bread is traditional soft pita with a moist garlic filling made using their own family recipe. Danny’s Garlic pita is simply delicious, warmed in the toaster, oven or briefly in the microwave.
Perfect for the barbecue season, it can be enjoyed on its own or cut open and filled with grilled meats or salad. Enjoy it filled with Danny’s falafels. Add a new dimension to the humble sausage-sizzle by stuffing garlic pockets with sliced hot sausage. For a Mediterranean-style appetizer, split garlic pitas open and toast under the grill, open-side up; cut and serve with antipasto platters. For sensational soup, serve hot crispy Garlic Pita cut into triangles. And for a simple family snack, top whole pitas with pizza sauce, grated cheese, ham and tomato and pop in the oven until sizzling.

Significantly, Danny doesn’t use any preservatives or additives in his pita bread. Danny recommends you don’t store them in the fridge as it dries them out. To keep the pita as fresh as possible, Danny recommends you freeze immediately and use one by one as needed; from your freezer to your toaster and ready in three minutes. Warming your pita makes it soft, easy to open and fill with your choice of fillings.

Danny’s Real Garlic Pita is available in white or wholemeal and in long-life packs.
RRP around $ 4.00 per pack of 4.
