The new Taste of New Zealand Awards, TONZA, are the feature event at the Taste of New Zealand event opening today at Victoria Park in Auckland. TONZA is a Mediaweb initiative to promote the excellence of regional food resources in restaurants and other hospitality outlets across the country.
The TONZA kitchen at the Taste venue features four champions of regional food quality, chefs responsible for kitchens at some of the country’s leading restaurants. Visitors to the TONZA area will find the food of Tim Pickering from The Farm at Cape Kidnappers, True South’s Ben Batterbury from Queenstown, Jonny Schwass of Christchurch and Te Whau chef, Marco Edwardes from Waiheke Island.
These four and their remarkable food will join the panoply of food stars at the event that includes Rick Stein, Annabel Langbein, Gary Rhodes and Ben Bayley. Victoria Park promises to be the venue of New Zealand’s biggest-ever food festival, with international visitors in town for the weekend’s Rugby World Cup final, and some of the best cooking talent in the country on show.
